Les évènements incontournables

Throughout the year, events, festivals, fairs and shows take turns to delight everyone. Festival Flamenco, Festival de la Biographie, Journées Romaines, Férias, Jeudis de Nîmes - just a few of the highlights that have become Nîmes classics.

Flamenco Festival

January

The Festival, organized by the Théâtre de Nîmes, welcomes leading Spanish artists and showcases the many singing, guitar and dance talents who perpetuate the tradition of Andalusian art in the South of France. Flamenco is a vibrant, living art form, recognized since 2010 as an intangible world heritage of humanity, which never ceases to evolve, to replenish itself and whose future no one is able to predict, but which makes an appointment every year with the Nîmes public.

Nearly 500 re-enactors take to the stage in the Arenas to bring back the ludis (games) of antiquity, with gladiatorial combat and equestrian races.... The whole town gets into the Roman spirit: Roman legionnaires parade through town, restaurants offer Roman or Gallic menus... Every spring, it's one of the biggest ancient re-enactments in Europe!

Ferias

Whitsun / September

The first Feria took place in 1952, in pure Spanish style, and even today it combines bullfights, Camargue races, concerts, bull runs and other events. Renowned throughout Europe, it's a popular event not to be missed. Twice a year, hundreds of thousands of people take to the streets. Everyone loves the excitement, the atmosphere that fills the city and brings together music and dance. Dozens of bodegas (improvised bars) spring up across the city, where people gather to party. The Féria lasts six days at Pentecost and three days in September. Festivities follow one another to satisfy all tastes and audiences! You can attend bullfights in the arenas, abrivados and bandidos (bull runs in the streets), see the peñas (brass bands), dance the Sevillian style late into the night in the bodegas, eat paella on the boulevards, attend concerts, watch the jousting on the Canal de la Fontaine, listen to mass in Provençal at the Cathedral, see the floats at the Pégoulade, the opening parade of the Feria de Pentecôte...
