Nîmes in the 19th century

8,00

The beautification plan drawn up shortly before the French Revolution by Jean-Arnaud Raymond, architect to the States of Languedoc, laid the foundations for the great achievements of the following century: opening up the city, restoring and enhancing ancient monuments. The arrival of the railroads led to the emergence of new neighborhoods and architecture, and encouraged the staging of the city's entrance, with the Avenue Feuchères and the Pradier fountain. As the boulevards were embellished, new arteries were created, in the same spirit as those created in Paris by Baron Haussman.
