The Tour Magne was the highest and most prestigious tower within the Roman walls. Visible from afar, it signalled the presence of the city and the imperial sanctuary of La Source, located at the foot of the hill.

It was built around an Iron Age dry-stone tower of which no remains remain.

Regularly octagonal in shape, it consisted around 15 BC of three levels built back-to-back above a basement. Today, the top storey has disappeared and the building rises to a height of 32 meters.

The view of Nîmes from its summit is remarkable.
