JEAN a garment from every angle
APRIL 11 > NOV. 16
CHAPELLE DES JÉSUITES
17 Grand Rue, 30000 Nîmes
It's the star of the clothing world, across all generations and social backgrounds, with 73 sold every second worldwide. We've all worn them, but how well do we know them?
Jeans are a garment steeped in legend. Workwear for gold miners, they spread around the world in less than a century, accompanying the rise of the textile industry and its globalization. A sign of rebellion for the youth of the 50s, leisurewear and everyday wear, it also graced the fashion catwalks.
Worn by everyone, today it's also a symbol of over-consumption and a polluting industry.
This immersive, offbeat and fun exhibition, designed at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris in 2021 in partnership with the Agence de la Transition écologique, invites you to discover jeans from every angle!

& carte blanche for Lycée Hemingway students
Thanks to a responsible harvest of over 200 kilos of denim at the Ressourcerie Réa-Nîmes and the Emmaüs Montpellier-Saint Aunes community, the 40 students in the DnMADE fashion and image program at the Lycée Ernest Hemingway in Nîmes are exploring the idea of denim folklore, weaving links between clothing, habit and habitat, here and elsewhere, by creating 2 exhibitions.
DRAPES a story of illusion(s)
MAY 16 > NOV. 16
MUSÉE DES BEAUX-ARTS
rue Cité Foulc, 30000 Nîmes
Witness to a society and a time, but also a social marker, the representation of textiles enables us to retrace the history of fashions and traditions. In succinct or overly theatrical settings, the artists tell the story and tell the stories. The suppleness of the fabrics and the infinity of textures in shimmering colors demonstrate the talent of the artists: the illusion is perfect, or almost.
Awaken your senses
In this exhibition, the museum offers you a sensory journey close to the works of art: delicate materials to touch and intoxicating fragrances to smell, for the art of draping in all senses.
Project created with Christèle Jacquemin, photographer, perfumer and traveler.
GOLD and SILK
MAY 17 > OCT. 31
MUSÉE DES CULTURES TAURINES
6 rue Alexandre Ducros, 30000 Nîmes
The costumes worn by bullfighters in the ring are a major element in the symbolic universe of bullfighting.
Rare 18th and 19th century antique costumes on loan from a private collection, as well as more modern costumes, trace the history of this emblematic garment.
The materials used and the embroidery details make these outfits veritable pieces of haute couture. The exhibition invites you into the tailor's workshop to discover the secrets behind the making of these works of art.
From AFRICA
MAY 23 > NOV. 16
NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
13 boulevard Amiral Courbet, 30000 Nîmes
Discover the history of textiles in Africa, with Josette Rivallain's collection.
Dozens of loincloths and basketry items, collected in West Africa, illustrate weaving, coloring and printing techniques.
The inspirational power of these African fabrics is echoed in the wall hangings of Anépou, a contemporary artist who reworks the threads of African fabrics.
A sewing table at the center of the exhibition will give visitors the opportunity to weave links between cultures, artistic practices and scientific collections, and to experiment.
