Very early on, Nîmes' heritage attracted a number of visitors, as shown by the numerous illustrations and guides published in the 16th and 17th centuries. The first tourist office was created in 1903 and the town has continued to strengthen its appeal. Today, nearly 2 million visitors from all over the world come to Nîmes every year. This raises the question of the development of sustainable tourism that is both reasonable and respectful of the environment. The Tourist Office is therefore making strong commitments within its own structure and in its operating model, raising awareness among its visitors and supporting service providers in the implementation of more virtuous actions for future generations.
